Yeah, would be good to dialogue further, Chris. Probably blog comments aren't the best venue. But I can't say I disagree with most of what you wrote above.

Interestingly, though, I do agree with what Driscoll recently wrote on the topic. I think Mark is a young guy who means well. Because he isn't quite as seasoned, sometimes he reacts too strongly to things that, as you say, are not primary. This creates fuel for his critics. But I honestly do believe that his heart is in the right place, and I definitely think I've noticed a trend towards humility in his style over the last couple years.

Hey Chris, great post. This is an alarming issue I had been wondering if people were picking up on.

Westy - thanks for the heads up on this link. I maybe wouldn't be as strong as McKnight, but I still can't agree with Justin Taylor... maybe more with his commentor Karl, who quotes this John Frame paper just like I did.

I'm sure the danger his is a "label" and maybe it's not helpful to label each other fundamentalists. But I'd suggest that Mark Driscoll has been labeling people Heretics so quickly and loudly (that it gets hard to sit by and keep turning the other cheek. (to his advantage, I don't believe I've heard him say this in the last 6 months, although he did recently say he would subject a man who stays home with his kids to church discipline, which I believe is another example of a secondary issue in his head elevated to a primary issue... which is one a fair part of the definition of fundamentalism).

All that said - of course would love to hear more what you think.
