George Lindbeck, of the Yale school of post-liberal theology, wrote a book in the 70s on "cultural-linguistic" theology. Vanhoozer is trying to reflect some continuity with Lindbeck, while saying that the cultural portion (in some ways church/tradition) still needs to be undergirded with the canon of scripture. Canonical approaches are now more common in Biblical studies that for a long time have somewhat sidelined some books as more or less authoritative, and taken a general historical-critical view, instead of just working with the set of books--the canon--as we have them.

postpropositionist gets into "propositional truth" or the modern epistemology that sees knowledge as somewhat scientific, objective, classifyiable, etc. "post" would be to acknowledge the influence of that but to move through it / past it.

If that's even a little bit helpful... terms are everything, aren't they?

I'm not sure what that last paragraph means (otherwise, I'm down with it all).

What do "Canonical-linguistic theology" and "postpropositionalist Scripture principle" mean?
